April 2012 Favorites and Regrets

I can't believe April has already come to an end. I can't say I'm sorry either because this means less rain, more blossoms, and summer in another month. So without further ado, I present to you this month's beauty and makeup favorites.

As you can see there are quite a few things I've been liking this month. The list of all things beauty I've been loving/using frequently are: (in left to right order)

Aussie Instant Freeze Hair Spray Extreme Hold: This product is just wow. The windy city can be brutal to hair especially when left open and this product is really a blessing. It gives a good hold without adding too much cast to the hair. You can build it up and get stronger hold if that is what you need. It's easy to use and smells great. It's not too expensive and comes in a huge bottle.

Clairol Herbal Essences Hydralicious Reconditioning Conditioner: I love this conditioner and this is a product worth repurchasing. I only wish they would put it in a tub packaging. I did a detailed review here, so please check it out for more information.

Jergens Shea Butter Deep Conditioning Moisturizer: I first got introduced to this lotion when I was in India and a friend from the US got it for me. Ever since I moved to the US I have been buying this again and again. It just does what it's supposed to do and it smells great.

Parachute Therapy Hair Vitaliser: This hair oil was a surprise. I did not expect it to work so well. It conditions my hair, it's a great pre-poo, and it has reduced my dandruff/hair fall to quite an extent.

Got2b Smooth Operator Smoothing Luster Lotion: This is my first leave-in hair product and I am amazed. A very good product and I would highly recommend it for wavy/curly and frizzy hair. I did a detailed review here, so please check it out for more information.

Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture Combination Skin: This product is good but not so good that it would make me run to the store and buy it the minute I finish it. Honestly, Neutrogena is a pricey/overrated brand in my opinion. I did a detailed review hereso please check it out for more information.

Lady Speed Stick Fresh Infusions Wild Freesia Antiperspirant/Deodorant: This a very good deodorant for the price. The packaging could be better but I'm not big on packaging so I would never diss a product for that. I did a detailed review hereso please check it out for more information.

Source Soothing Hand Soap in Lavender and Chamomile: This hand soap is very gentle and smells great. Costs very less and lasts a long time.

Dove Moisturizing Soap White: I recently switched to this soap from the regular ones. I used to not care much about what soap I used but ever since I've been diagnosed with Hypothyroid recently I noticed my skin started getting dry. Someone suggested this soap so I decided to give it a try and fell in love. This soap is quite moisturizing like they say. Now when I go back to my older soaps I find that they are too stripping and my skin starts getting tight and itchy. So I have religiously started using this soap only.

Boro Plus Healthy Skin Antiseptic Cream: Great cream for spot dryness, and cuts. I love it for my chapped/cracked lips, and for my dry elbows.

Wet n Wild Mega Slicks lipgloss 576A Rose Gold: Very moisturizing and glossy. The color just suits my skin tone well. It costs very less and lasts a long time. I love the mild scent too.

CoverGirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner Black: Absolute love! It's so creamy and smooth and just glides on. It stays put for a long time with mild transfer as my lids start getting oily. It's quite an intense black color too which I really like.

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder Sand Medium: I have repurchased this powder so many times. It wears pretty well and gives a light natural looking coverage. It controls oil pretty well without drying out my skin. It smooths everything out and overall gives a blurring effect. It feels very comfortable on my skin.

NARS Orgasm Blush: There's a reason why it's sold one every minute or so. Yes, it was probably because of JLo but also because it truly is a great blush, with good formulation, and it suits a wide range of skin tones. It's very easy to use, has good pigmentation, and even if you overdo it, it still looks great. This is one blush that you can never go wrong with and it will never make you look like you have too much blush on your face. It somehow always manages to look quite natural.

ELF Studio Eyebrow Kit Dark: My first eyebrow product and I did not expect it to work this well. It makes my brows look naturally full, well groomed, and it costs very less. I repurchased this already.

Other favorites:
TV Shows: Smash, Revenge, New Girl, Glee
Movies: The Hunger Games

And about the Regrets, I'm hating/not impressed with the following:

Covergirl Lip Perfection Lip Colors: I bought a couple of these and both colors are very bright and intense. One of them also has shimmer in it which is over the top. Other color options they had looked like that as well, either too shimmery, or too intense for daily use. Most of the shades don't suit my skin tone. They have a powdery kind of fragrance that lingers. Overall, I am not impressed.

CoverGirl Lash Blast Length Mascara Dark Brown: This mascara does almost nothing to my lashes. It lengthens a little bit and there's some separation but overall I don't see it doing much to my lashes. They have a volumizing one that comes in an orange tube and I want to try that one next because I see good reviews for that.

Wet n Wild MegaLast Salon Nail Color 201C Wet Cement: The color is good but this polish formula is quite different from the mint-colored one. It doesn't look as shiny and makes my hands look dull. The polish also chips off faster. The Wet n Wild nail polishes from this line are not consistent with the formula.

Other Regrets:
TV Shows: Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, Grays Anatomy
Movies: Avengers

So what are you loving or hating for this month? Please do comment and let me know.

  2. Hey Dr. Rashmi! Thanks so much for following my blog :) I can't tell you how happy it makes me. And I live in US so all these brands are drugstore brands easily found everywhere in the US. And yeah, I hated Avengers, maybe because I expected too much from it and didn't feel like it was worth the wait.

Some Recent Regret Buys

In my opinion, it's not ethical blogging if we're only featuring the good and not talking about some bad products because let's face it, there are a lot of crappy products out there. And when we're not talking about them we're withholding important information and we're not being fair to our readers. In fact, it means we're being fairer to brands. It's fine if people want to earn some money through brand deals but it's really not worth it to become a sell-out. Some might say why bother writing about bad products, why not just let them be, but I want to put the word out there about bad products too because I want to help people like me save some money. Please note that when I say "bad products" it means "products that have not worked for me". However, these products might have worked very well for some others because each of us has different skin types and tolerance for products and it's totally OK. In the past few months, I t...

I Got Influenced and Wasted my Money on These 15 Hyped Products

Influencer marketing has been there forever but with more online social media platforms it has become even more crazier since the 2010s. This type of marketing trend has its good sides as we get to know about a lot of things that are introduced into the market while sitting at home. So there is no worry of missing out on anything that is good. But it is also sometimes misleading/misinforming which can not only make us waste money on worthless products but also mistrust influencers as a whole.  This post is going to be only about beauty (skincare/haircare/makeup) products that I wasted my money on. It does not mean that I mistrust influencers or that I am not going to follow influencers anymore. I have also benefited in many ways from influencers so this is not a hateful post. I only want to convey through this post that it is important to use our own judgment and not blindly follow what somebody is recommending just because they seem likable, genuine, or convincing on camera....
