May 2012 Favorites and Regrets

Although I like doing single product reviews, it is exhausting and time consuming to come up with such detailed posts for just one product. I mean how much can I go on and on about just one product. So I'm liking these monthly faves posts where I can talk about a lot of products altogether in one single post.

This month, I do not have any new favorites in other categories like tv/movies, etc. If I did have any, they were repeats from the previous month so I did not include them again here. The products I have reviewed previously are all linked, and for those I didn't, I've written a short review of why I did or didn't like them.

Beauty and makeup favorites this month:

Avon Imari Seduction Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant
Revlon Color Burst Lip Butter 001 Pink Truffle
Nivea A Kiss of Moisture lip balm
: A very basic and boring lip balm but it works. Does anyone really not like the Nivea lip balms?
Wet n Wild MegaLast Lip Color 906D Wine Room
NYC Matte Me Crazy Mattifying Top Coat
Wet n Wild MegaLast Nail Color 218A I Need A Refresh-Mint
Beauty and makeup regrets I wasn't impressed with or totally hated this month:

Brash for Payless Fruity Lip Syrup Wild Grape: This lip gloss is too watery, doesn't even last an hour, and even less if you are eating. It almost has no tint and no shine. It smells good but that doesn't last either. Overall it's useless and feels like toy makeup. Serves me right for buying lipgloss from Payless of all places.

Coastal Scents 26 Shadow Blush Palette: I really want to love this palette for the colors but the eyeshadows are chalky and it's very hard to get the pigment or to blend. I tried too hard and it ended up irritating my eyelids. I can make the blushes work somehow but really the pigmentation is not the best and also doesn't last long.

Aveeno Active Naturals Continuous Protection Sunblock Lotion Face SPF 30: I don't know why they say it's for the face but it felt thick and heavy on my face so I ended up using it on my hands and legs. It was OK as a body sunscreen but I was really looking for something good for the face and this was not it.

Covergirl Queen Collection Eyelash curler: This was too big for my eyes and I kept pressing on my eyelids along with lashes. It was painful and annoying to use it. But most eyelash curlers are like this and I think I'm not going to buy them anymore. I feel like they're one useless tool that really doesn't do much, at least not for me.

NYX Soft matte lip creams: I bought a couple of these and don't understand why the hell are these so hyped. First of all, they have a weird smell, and they are very drying. Once completely dry they emphasize the dryness even more. They tint lips and are a little hard to remove. Also, most colors they have don't suit my skin tone.

ELF Essential Lipstick Seductive: ELF has good lip glosses but the essential lipsticks are just not good. They are streaky and ball up on the lips which I find is very weird. I never knew lipstick worked like that. It also had a plastic-like smell.

Hair and care silk n shine hair gel: I got this from India since a cousin suggested it but whenever I used it my scalp felt itchy. And I did not apply it to my scalp, I just used it to tame the frizz down on my hair. It however did make my hair tangle free and smooth to comb.

CVS Cleansing and Makeup Remover Towelettes: These are so dry and they irritated my skin. They didn't even do a good job of removing makeup.

Phew! I'm tired. I hope you liked this post. Let me know about your faves and fails in the comments below.

Some Recent Regret Buys

In my opinion, it's not ethical blogging if we're only featuring the good and not talking about some bad products because let's face it, there are a lot of crappy products out there. And when we're not talking about them we're withholding important information and we're not being fair to our readers. In fact, it means we're being fairer to brands. It's fine if people want to earn some money through brand deals but it's really not worth it to become a sell-out. Some might say why bother writing about bad products, why not just let them be, but I want to put the word out there about bad products too because I want to help people like me save some money. Please note that when I say "bad products" it means "products that have not worked for me". However, these products might have worked very well for some others because each of us has different skin types and tolerance for products and it's totally OK. In the past few months, I t...

April 2012 Favorites and Regrets

I can't believe April has already come to an end. I can't say I'm sorry either because this means less rain, more blossoms, and summer in another month.  So without further ado, I present to you this month's beauty and makeup favorites.  As you can see there are quite a few things I've been liking this month. The list of all things beauty I've been loving/using frequently are: (in left to right order) Aussie Instant Freeze Hair Spray Extreme Hold : This product is just wow. The windy city can be brutal to hair especially when left open and this product is really a blessing. It gives a good hold without adding too much cast to the hair. You can build it up and get stronger hold if that is what you need.  It's easy to use and smells great. It's not too expensive and comes in a huge bottle. Clairol Herbal Essences Hydralicious Reconditioning Conditioner : I love this conditioner and this is a product worth repurchasing. I only wish they would put it in ...

I Got Influenced and Wasted my Money on These 15 Hyped Products

Influencer marketing has been there forever but with more online social media platforms it has become even more crazier since the 2010s. This type of marketing trend has its good sides as we get to know about a lot of things that are introduced into the market while sitting at home. So there is no worry of missing out on anything that is good. But it is also sometimes misleading/misinforming which can not only make us waste money on worthless products but also mistrust influencers as a whole.  This post is going to be only about beauty (skincare/haircare/makeup) products that I wasted my money on. It does not mean that I mistrust influencers or that I am not going to follow influencers anymore. I have also benefited in many ways from influencers so this is not a hateful post. I only want to convey through this post that it is important to use our own judgment and not blindly follow what somebody is recommending just because they seem likable, genuine, or convincing on camera....
